Date: 01/03/2018 - 28/02/2019
The one-year long course is aimed at individuals with no or very limited knowledge or experience in ultrasound as well as those who had not undertaken structured training in the field and wish to develop their knowledge, practical and professional skills to a standard that provides confidence that s/he is fit to practice in this field to the defined level. The target audience is primarily fully qualified medical practitioners who wish to pursue a career where ultrasound imaging plays a significant part of their practice and who wish to learn the skill such as obstetricians, gynaecologists and radiologists.
The modular course has adopted a distance learning approach to maximise benefit and widen access. Acquisition of relevant skills will be achieved by a combination of “how to do it” videos placed on the learning portal, practice on ultrasound simulators where available, and through undertaking scans on patients in Learners’ own working environment. Learners will have privileged access to the programme’s learning resources and will interact with faculty exclusively and confidentially through this medium. Learners will demonstrate their attainment of the learning outcomes of the modules by successfully completing tests of knowledge and practical skills during and at the end of the course.
Learners will have to undertake the “Essentials of Imaging Science and Technology” module as it is core to ultrasound practice. However, they will have the flexibility to choose any two of the remaining modules in the first year of study depending on their practice. They may also enrol on the other modules following that should they wish to extend their knowledge and skills in the field.
